Oral Exam

For the oral exam, a student needs to present the "Dissertation Prospectus" to the advisory committee. Although the detailed format of the oral exam can be changed with the consultation of your major advisor, here are some general guidelines

  • About 50 minute presentation on your dissertation plan
  • Title and abstract have to be submitted to Robin Taylor at least 2 weeks in advance (Graduate School Requirement).
  • Oral exam has to be passed before the end of 4th spring semester!

After passing the oral exam, a student will be promoted to PhD candidacy. At this point, two forms need to be submitted to the graduate school: Application for the PhD Candidacy and Final Program of Study.
