Most visitors will fly into the Atlanta Hartsfield-Jackson airport and either drive a rental car or take a shuttle to Athens, about 1.5 hours away. Shuttle information is available here. Direct airline service to Athens is also available through Charlotte, North Carolina, on US Airways.
If you are driving from Atlanta airport take I-75 north and I-85 north to 316, as shown here. Follow 316 east for an hour or so east to Athens. When you arrive at the 10 loop, take it east and exit left at Milledge Ave, as shown here. Follow Milledge north to Lumpkin Street. This will bring you to the UGA campus.
Most guests will stay at the Georgia Center for Continuing Education, an on-campus hotel and conference center. The Georgia Center is located at 1197 South Lumpkin Street, and the telephone number there is 706-542-1932. Your expenses (room, meals, parking, etc.) will be billed directly to the Department of Physics and Astronomy (please do not give them a credit card, which tends to confuse them). The Department of Physics and Astronomy is located in the Physics building, a 5 minute walk from the Georgia Center, as shown here.
If you are staying at the Georgia Center, you can park there. Otherwise park next to or behind the Physics building and I will have a parking permit for you.
My office is in room 251 of the Physics building. My office, cell, and home phone number is 706-340-6021.
The maps given above will get you to the Physics Building. If you need further information, a nice road map of Athens is given here, and a campus map highlighting the Physics building is available here.
