Introductory Quantum Mechanics

Required Textbook: Introduction to Quantum Mechanics, 2nd Ed., David J. Griffiths (Pearson

                                    Prentice Hall, 2005).

Reference book: (1) Schaum’s Outline: Quantum Mechanics

                            (2) Richard L. Liboff, Introductory Quantum Mechanics, third edition

                                 (Addison-Wesley, Reading, Massachusetts, 1998)

 

Math requirements: Calculus, Algebra, Differentiate equations, Fourier transform, and basic knowledge of mathematical physics (optional)

 

Contents: Angular momentum, Schrodinger Equation in 3D, Hydrogen atom, Spin, Approximation method, Time-dependent perturbation, Scattering theory

 

Overall requirements:

  • Read the relevant chapters before come to class
  • Class attendance taken at the beginning of each class
  • Written notice from doctor is required if sick for any missing class

 

Grades: Your class grade will be determined as follows:

Exams (two tests + final exam): 90%

Homework Grade:                                 10%

 

Your overall letter grade in this course will be:

 

A if AS >= 85

B if 85 > AS >= 70

C if 70 > AS >= 55

D if 55 > AS >= 40

F if 40 > AS
