PHYS 1112 Spring Semester 2007
Period 5: 12:20pm - 1:10pm MWF Room 202
Professor Mon, Room 223D
Office Hours:
Monday : 1:10pm - 1:45pm
Wednesday : 1:10pm - 1:45pm
Appointment can be made for other times.
Professor Mon can be reached at 542-3454.
Primary means of communication is to meet with Professor Mon
after class or at office hours.
Federal law prohibits discussion of student record without
positive identification. This excludes common use of telephone and email.
Attendence of lectures is mandatory.
There will be six tests but no final exam.
All tests will be closed book multiple choice with no
partial credit.
Multiple versions of the same test will be used and academic
honesty will be strictly enforced.
All students are expected to take all 4 tests, midterm test
and final test.
Excused absence from a test must be documented.
Excused absence from test 1 or test 2 will be substituted by
the midterm test.
Student with excused absence from both test 1 and test 2
will be subjected to withdrawl with a grade of W.
Excused absence from midterm test will take a makeup.
Excused absence from test 3 or test 4 will be substituted by
the final test.
Student with excused absence from both test 3 and test 4
will be asked to take a makeup test for test 4 and test 3 will be substituted
by the final test.
Student with excused absence from the final test will take
makeup during the final exam period.
Grading Policy:
85% average of the top 5 scores from (4 tests + midterm test + final
test) + 15% of the lab grade = 100%.
The letter grade will be assigned as:
A = 90 to 100
A- =
87 to 89
B+ = 83 to 86
B = 80 to 82
B- =
78 to 79
C+ =
74 to 77
C = 70 to 73
C- =
65 to 69
D = 50 to 64
F = 0 to
49
Standard rounding will be used. For examples, 89.4999 will
be rounded to 89 and "A-" but 89.50 will be rounded to 90 and
"A".
The assignment of letter grade is objective and
non-negotiable.
Note, in general it is not easy to get an "A" in Physics but we will help the students to learn
and perform at their best.
All withdrawal will be processed in accordance with
University policy as stated in the undergraduate bulletin. In all cases, "W"
will be assigned for withdrawal before the midpoint.
Students are expected to attend all classes but no record of
attendence will be taken.
Buy and read the Textbook:
First, second or third edition of "
PHYSICS " BY J. S. Walker.
Buy and use the Student Study Guide by D. Reid.
Access and use the online materials at:
www.physics.prenhall.com/walker/
Homework assignment:
Work out everything in the study guide; examples, practice quiz,
practice problems and selected problems with solutions given in the study
guide.
Additional homework problems from the textbook will not be assigned
but the student is encouraged to solve some of them.
The answers to the odd-numbered problems are in the back of
the text. We will also work more problems in class.
