Course Information:

Class Day/Time: T 2:00-3:15 PM

There is no required textbook.

Course Structure: The course will be a mixture of presentations by the instructor,

reports by students on homework assignments, and general discussion.

Topics:  We will discuss a variety of topics, with most of the reading material

coming from recent issues of Physics Today.  We will linger on some topics

longer than others, as your (and my) interest dictates.  Therefore, we will not have

a set schedule for the semester.

Attendance and Class Participation: Since class participation is such an integral part of

the course, a maximum of one unexcused absence will be permitted.  Your course

grade will be reduced by one letter grade for each unexcused absence beyond one.

Assignments: Weekly homework assignments.  They will be of various types, including

research, calculations, data analysis, and essays.

Grades: Determined from class participation (25%) and homework assignments (75%).
