NSF Research Experiences
for Undergraduates

NOTE THAT THE APPLICATION DEADLINE FOR SUMMER 2004 IS MARCH 15, 2004

The Department of Physics and Astronomy of the University of Georgia in Athens, Georgia expects to offer ten research assistant positions for the summer of 2004. These positions are funded through the NSF's Research Experience for Undergraduates (REU) Program. This REU program will provide undergraduates considering a career in science with the opportunity to engage in research with professional physicists and astronomers working on cutting-edge problems in physics. The REU students will be full-time research assistants to a faculty mentor and will work on specific aspects of an ongoing research program. Physicists and astronomers at UGA conduct research on a wide range of interdisciplinary areas including computational physics, biophysics, atmospheric physics, astrophysics, nuclear physics, chemical physics, condensed matter physics, and genomics. 

Participants must be citizens or permanent residents of the United States. The positions are full-time for 9 weeks between June 1 and August 5, 2004. A salary of $3000 for the internship, housing in UGA dorms and travel to and from Athens, GA will be provided. The application deadline for the Summer 2004 Physics REU program is March 15, 2004.  Details of applications are given by following the application form link above.   We strongly urge applicants to apply on line.  Application forms may also be printed and mailed or requested by mail from the address above. Successful applicants will be notified by late March 2004.
