Optical Spectroscopy of Solids

Richard Meltzer

In this independent-study course, students who participate in my group will have the opportunity to learn about the optical spectroscopy of solids.  My research activities in the study of the optical properties of solids have two thrusts: (1) the dynamical properties of solids using high resolution laser spectroscopy, with a current emphasis on nanoparticles, and (2) the development of new phosphors for lighting applications.  The student will learn about some of the basic principles of optical spectroscopy and will have the opportunity to perform some experiments on the optical properties of solids.
